Product Review: HempMy Pet CBD Oil for Dogs

After Sora’s third round of cancer, a friend who works in the marijuana and CBD industry reached out to me and suggested that we look into CBD oil for Sora. Intrigued, I hit the Google for research, eventually coming across HempMy Pet CBD oil products.

Based on the recommendation from my friend and the success stories I read, I was convinced to incorporate it into Sora’s cancer diet. There’s not a ton of information out there about CBD oil treatment for cancer (and other medical conditions), likely because it is only recently starting to gain traction for medicinal use and it’s complicated and outdated legal restrictions in the United States. Historically, humans have been cultivating and using cannabis since 4000BC. Fortunately, as more states regulate the use of marijuana, CBD gets to come along for the ride.

Will My Pet Get High from CBD Oil?

Nope! CBD oil does not contain THC, which is the compound that causes a high. While both are cannabinoids derived from the cannabis plant and have a direct impact on brain function, they behave differently. The main difference is that THC is intoxicating and CBD is not. For more information on the difference and effects, this article from Weedmaps helps break it down.

By law, hemp-derived CBD products must have less than .3% THC to still be considered hemp. Dilution with carrier oils further reduces the amount of THC and third party lab tests show zero trace of THC in HempMy Pet products.

All products mentioned are legal in all 50 states and in many countries worldwide.

What are the Benefits of CBD Oil?

CBD oil can help with a number of medical conditions, including:

  • Seizures and epilepsy. Five percent of dogs suffer from seizures and the drugs prescribed to treat them can cause damage to other organs when used long term. A famous success story for treating epilepsy is the use of CBD oil in a three-year-old child named Charlotte. She went from having 300 grand mal seizures per week to a few per month.
  • Pain and inflammation relief. For older pups suffering from arthritis or those recovering from surgery, CBD oil can help reduce pain and inflammation.
  • Increases appetite and reduces nausea. When illnesses or stomach viruses decrease the appetite, CBD oil can help stimulate hunger and help the body heal faster. It’s also helpful for those pets going through chemotherapy to help with the nausea.
  • May help fight cancer. Cannabinoids have been shown to prevent metastasis, kill cancer cells, and stop tumors from increasing in size.
  • Anxiety relief. From storms to loud cities to meeting new dogs and people, CBD may help ease the anxieties presented in fearful dogs.

Now, I’m not a veterinarian, remember? I am not saying that CBD oil will treat, cure, or prevent any of these above mentioned conditions. It may work for your dog, or it may not. Talk with your vet before administering CBD oil to your pet.

Why HempMy Pet CBD Oil?

The CBD industry for pets has been exploding lately. With so many brands out on the market, choosing the right one requires in depth research and an understanding of what you’re getting from the product. The founders have over 30 years of experience cultivating cannabis and manufacturing dietary supplements and produce high quality CBD oil that meet my requirements:

Certified Organic Colorado Hemp

Finding a certified organic producer of CBD oil was my first priority. Because of the rise in cultivators and products available, the market tends to become more focused on quantity over quality.

HempMy Pet does not use any additives, animal products, pesticides, herbicides, or insecticides. The company grows and extracts all of their own hemp in their own facilities. When partnering manufacturers, they meticulously select responsibly and sustainably-sourced ingredients from suppliers for their products.

Full Spectrum Hemp and Strain-Specific Consistency

All hemp-infused products are made by the company’s full spectrum hemp extract derived from their own strain-specific organic hemp.

What does this mean? It means that you know what you’re getting each time you purchase this product. Many brands will mix strands of hemp for their products. So what may work for your dog or cat once, may not work the next time. Since HempMy Pet products are all grown using the same single strand, from seed to sale, consumers can rely on the efficacy of the vertically integrated product over time.

Variety of Hemp-Infused Products

The company offers a variety of products for pets, including infused oils, coconut oil, and biscuits. Everything aside from the biscuits (which have eggs) is vegan, GMO-free, gluten-free, and cruelty-free. Dosage amounts vary depending on the weight of your pet and each product is labeled with a scale so you don’t have to remember each time.

As a daily supplement, I add .5ml of the infused oil to Sora’s food once per day. Of course, I can’t tell if the CBD oil is doing anything for her cancer, but only time will tell.

Both dogs LOVE the pumpkin cookies (they smell so good, I’d try them myself if they were vegan!). We noticed a marked difference in Laila after consumption. She listens to us better, doesn’t go berserk when we’re at restaurants, and she actually chills. Nature’s chill pill.

I’ve been using the coconut oil to rub on Sora’s raw skin, leftover from her radiation treatment. I love using coconut oil on the skin. It acts as a natural sun protector (albeit with an SPF of 4, so I still cover Sora’s leg during long exposure to the sun), moisturizer, and an antibacterial agent.

And once it cools down here, I’m scheming to make my grain-free pumpkin dog cookies with the coconut oil.

Human-Grade Ingredients

If I wanted to make a CBD oil-infused smoothie and share it with the dogs, I could. All of HempMy Pet’s products are created with human-grade ingredients and follow the CGMP guidelines for dietary supplements.

Third Party Tested

As mentioned above, all of the hemp is grown and cultivated on the company’s farm in Loveland, Colorado. Other products may contain hemp grown and shipped from China or Europe and may not be tested for purity. The hemp seed oil used as the carrier oil is organic, virgin cold-pressed, and sourced from Canada.

HempMy Pet tests all incoming ingredients for purity and safety in order to ensure they are free of contaminants and meet potency specifications.

Grown in Small Batches

To ensure the freshest and most consistent product, HempMy Pet grows their products in small batches.

Who Should Try HempMy Pet?

If your pet has arthritis, cancer, anxiety, aggression issues, or has just had surgery, CBD oil might be a good supplement to add to your pet’s diet. (just don’t forget to have a chat with your vet, first) HempMy Pet makes some of the highest quality CBD products for pets available on the market, and they ship internationally!

Disclosure: I was compensated by HempMy Pet for sharing my experience with their product. All opinions remain my own and I only recommend products that we have tested and that we love. We think HempMy Pet rules.
