A coffee review? Don’t worry, you’re in the right place.
Grounds & Hounds isn’t just any coffee, it’s coffee for dogs.
Um. Coffee is poisonous for dogs, Jen.
I know, I know. Stick with me.
Grounds & Hounds is an online coffee retailer that supports animal rescue programs, donating 20% of all profits to partner rescue organizations that give dogs a second chance at life.
Now this post is starting to make sense, right?
The company mission is to eradicate unnecessary animal euthanasia and improve animal welfare while providing delicious coffee to dog lovers. That definitely justifies enjoying a morning cup of coffee (or two) every day.
Grounds & Hounds Coffee
Grounds & Hounds coffee is 100% Arabica, specialty grade coffee, sourced from coffee growing regions around the world, including:
- Papua New Guinea
All beans are Fair Trade and organic certified, from the best coffee growing regions in the world. Each batch is small-batch roasted, which means that they are able to preserve the quality specific to each bean with minimal alteration.
Grounds & Hounds is committed to the long term sustainability of the coffee industry and supports farmers who use natural farming methods and have developed a responsible supply chain that starts with the growers.
Grounds & Hounds Roasts
Grounds & Hounds roasts using a traditional European style, with a focus on full-bodied blends, ranging from light to dark roasts. Each coffee includes a flavor profile and tasting notes to help you pick your perfect blend.
Buyers can choose between purchasing whole or ground beans, as well as a number of style options including:
- single origin roasts
- single serve pods
- decaf blends
- espresso roasts
- hot chocolate mixes
I personally love darker roasts and always buy whole bean coffee for freshness. I’ve tried several different dark and medium roasts and have narrowed down a few favorites (though I’ve enjoyed them all!).

Alpha – made using a blend of beans from Colombia, Guatemala, and Sumatra, the Alpha Blend has tasting notes of cocoa, vanilla, and nutmeg. It’s my favorite, especially in cooler weather.
Good Boy – made using a blend of beans from Sumatra and Peru. Apparently the team spent five years crafting the roast and blend on this one to achieve a perfect balance of smokiness with a smooth finish. Tasting notes include brown sugar, buttercream, molasses, and baker’s chocolate. It’s like having cake for breakfast!
Belly Rub – This full-bodied medium blend features beans from Nicaragua, Ethiopia, and Mexico with tasting notes of apple pie, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Hello fall!
Rescue Roast – 100% of all profits from this blend go to a new rescue organization every month, so you can feel extra great about your morning cup! The Rescue Roast features a blend of beans from Sumatra, Peru, and Mexico with tasting notes of toasted pecan, dark chocolate, red currant, and caramel.
Sit & Stay – This blend is intended to inspire coffee drinkers to sit and stay for an additional 15 minutes to fully enjoy their morning cup of joe, and of course that extra time with their best friend. Featuring beans from Papua New Guinea, Mexico, and Peru, tasting notes for this full-bodied roast include marshmallow and black cherry.
Grounds & Hounds Subscription Program
For regular coffee drinkers, the subscription club is the way to go. Grounds & Hounds offers a small discount on coffee for members. You pick the style (ground or whole bean), preferred blend, delivery frequency, and wait by the mailbox!
You can easily change your blend and delivery rate by making adjustments in your profile.
Joining the club means that you’re never without coffee and you’re saving even more rescue dogs. It’s a win win!
Mugs & Apparel
You’re going to need a good mug to drink all that coffee with, you know. I’m super picky about my mugs. Coffee just doesn’t taste right if I’m not happy with my mug. Is that weird? Maybe.
Luckily, Grounds & Hounds has a great mug selection, ranging from diner-style mugs to lightweight mugs for camping and backpacking. There are probably about 20 mugs to pick from with different dog-related phrases, beautiful designs, and a variety of styles.
In addition, you can opt for a pint glass, insulated tumblers, bandanas, dog toys, t-shirts and sweatshirts, dog bowls, blankets, and more. I love that the designs are fun and not just specific to the brand.
So there you have it! I love supporting Grounds & Hounds coffee because of their mission to save dogs. I love that I can feel great about drinking my daily cuppa knowing that my purchase is doing good work.
